History and today

Segre begins has a necessity to protect workers from dangerous particles and gasses.

In 1968 Evert Segersten was running a business of car refinishes and rapidly he noticed that he must protect his employees. He began cutting the masks manually and those masks were made with a non-woven material. Surprisingly, the first masks Evert Segersten made had a striking resemblance with the masks we currently produce. The flat-folded design was invented.

The employees were very pleased with the new protection because they felt much safer. At this moment, Mr. Segersten and their sons realized that they could commercialize the product to other industrial companies. In order to achieve this goal they worked hard to improve the quality of the masks and obtain the certificate required to sell.

They introduced thissue in the masks with the objective of reaching a better filtration. Thanks to this improvement, they obtained the 2A certificate and this allowed them to commercialize the product. Segre was the second company in the world to get this certificate.

Despite that the product was unique in the market; Segre did not stop searching better designs and materials to improve the quality of the masks. More concretely, the company was not satisfied with the feeling of the mask in contact with the face skin. In addition, the masks resistance to wetness also had to improve.
The solution to all this problems came from the introduction of a new material in the masks that we still use. This material gave to Segre’s masks a longer resistance to moisture and a very pleasant contact with the face skin. Segre also wanted to improve the fit of the mask to the worker’s face and to do it we created a leather masks where you only had to change the filter every certain time.
The leather supports were removed few years later because we found more comfortable and easy ways to reach a better fixation.

The company always has been conscious that a great part of the success of the masks is due to the high quality of the materials used. For that reason, Segersten brothers never stopped travelling around to world looking for the best materials to improve the quality of the masks. They discovered that the electrostatic fibres offered a really high particle filtration and also a vey low breathing resistance. Segre was the first company in the world to introduce this material in the respirators; those were the Segre CN-masks. Rapidly, the competitors noticed the efficiency of the electrostatic fibres and they also started to modify their masks.
With the incorporation of electrostatic fibres, Segre’s masks quality experienced a huge increase and the company got the certificate 2B. The certificate 2B permitted us to increase our range of products and we started to produce different levels of protection for different industrial uses.

The research of the company to find better materials still continues. We are aware that the quality of the materials used is the issue that makes the difference between masks. In Segre, we have always gone one step further working with the fibres that assure the highest filtration and the lowest breathing resistance in the world.
